Milkbooks is an online book editor that allows users to create and publish bespoke books, photobooks and art books. In comparison with other players in the field, Milkbooks are of an extremely high quality and come with many features such as designer fabric covers, slip cases and a digital flipbook.
Milkbooks is the brainchild of PQ Blackwell, who has an international reputation for conceiving and producing high quality illustrated books. PQ Blackwell collaborates with some of the world's leading photographers and individuals including international luminaries Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and eminent photographers Albert Watson, Andrew Zuckerman and Platon. They are also behind 'MILK', a global brand which delivered many iconic images to the world through books, cards, calendars and an exhibtion in central station New York.
PQ Blackwell invited Salted Herring to be their design partner for Milk Books across all digital collateral which took over a year to complete. As well as delivering the interface design of both the portal site and book editor application, we created and art-directed some key communication pieces such as the stop-motion brand story video, process video and several short stingers. We commissioned National Park to bring these to life with beautiful stop-motion, painstakeingly created frame by frame. Milk Books has since joined forces with Moleskine so the design has taken a different direction and the original work is no longer live, however the videos are still used on the site.
